Teen Programs:
12 - 18 years



Level: Learn-to-Swim

Description: We are always very excited to have the opportunity to teach teens to swim. Our approach is always learner centred, focusing on the specific skills you want to focus on, whether it is starting from scratch or improving the strokes you already have. We will create the program just for you.

Fluid Motion, swimming instruction in Winnipeg

Level: Swim Club

Description: Swim in a club style atmosphere that is focused on fun, skills and fitness without the competition, nor the fundraising. We have a variety of 1 hour class times to choose from.


Level: Bronze Star

Class Time: 24 hour course plus exam

Description: Delivers high performance training for skilled swimmers and is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. Examples of topics covered are; dealing with a submerged victim, underwater searches, land spinal and learning CPR. This program is evaluated by the instructor.

The fee includes the manual and exam.

Session Options for Bronze Star:

1-1/2 hour class for 17 weeks.


Level: Next Wave Leader Club

Description: This mentorship program is an introduction to working with the developing swimmer and basic teaching techniques. Itís a great opportunity to develop leadership skills, and to stay involved in aquatics, especially between the Bronze levels and the Instructor courses. This is a great chance to see if your swimmers would like to move onto the Instructor levels at age 15.

Club members meet once a month for a training session and practice teach with our instructors for 1-hour once a week.

Pre-requisite: 12 years and level 10


Level: Synchronized Swimming

Description: For those who love the water and want to try something new! Part swimming, part gymnastics, part dance and all fun! Synchronized swimming is a great way to improve your strength, coordination and flexibility. Classes are once a week for an hour.

Pre-requisite: Level 8 or higher


Level: Bronze Star

2 Formats to choose from:

  1. 5 week session: 1.5 hours twice a week

  2. 6 week session: 2.5 hours once a week

Level: Bronze Medallion

Description: This course is the pre-requisite for Bronze Cross. Examples of topics covered are; a shallow end spinal, open water rescues, unconscious victims and non-swimmer rescues. This program is evaluated by an examiner. The fee includes the manual and exam.

Pre-requisite: 13 years of age or Bronze Star

Class Time: 25 hour course plus exam


Level: Bronze Cross

Description: This level is the pre-requisite for NLS. Example of topics covered are; a deep to shallow end spinal, dealing with two victims at once and working as a team with another rescuer. Bronze Cross is evaluated by an examiner. The fee includes the manual and exam.

Pre-requisite: Bronze Medallion

Class Time: 25 hour course plus exam


Level: Bronze Cross Re-certification

Description: The Bronze Cross award is a lifetime award but stays current for 2 years. It must be re-certified in order to be used. Our re-certification is treated as a workshop with a refresher course prior to the exam.

Class Time: Sundays 12:30 - 4:30 at Pan Am

Dates: April 15 or June 10


Session Options for Medallion & Bronze Cross:
  1. 2-weekends; Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday includes exam time

Level: Red Cross Assistant Water Safety Instructor

Description: AWSI is the pre-requisite to the Water Safety Instructor and introduces the candidates to the Red Cross Swim program, basic teaching techniques, learning styles, physical principles, progressions, communication, safety supervision and feedback. The candidates will be working along side an instructor on a regular basis.

Pre-requisite: 15 years and up, Red Cross Swim Kids level 10


Level: Red Cross Water Safety Instructor

Description: This course further develops instructional ability by focusing on how to apply the information learned in the AWSI course to effectively plan and teach the Red Cross Swim continuum (Red Cross Preschool, Red Cross Swim Kids and Adult & Teen). Candidates apply their teaching skills and knowledge during their practical teaching experience along side experienced instructors. Upon successful completion of the course, candidates are certified as a Water Safety Instructor.

Pre-requisite: Assistant Water Safety Instructor

Level: Lifesaving Society's National Lifeguard Service Award (NLS/AEC/CPR)

Description: We are very excited about adding the National Lifeguard Service Tri-Award (NLS/AEC/CPR) to our program. This award is the required level to Lifeguard in Manitoba. It is designed to develop a strong understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment and a responsible attitude towards the role of the lifeguard. The primary role of the lifeguard is the prevention of an emergency, if prevention fails then the timely and effective resolution of the emergency should one occur.

Pre-requisite:

  1. 16 years old by end of course dates

  2. Bronze Cross (not current)

The course fee includes:

  • All manuals

  • Handouts

  • Whistle

  • Pocket Face Mask

  • Exam Fee
